the volunteer movement

The program is simple.  Our members are part of Austin’s busy community of young professionals.  We want to give back, but it can seem too time-consuming, too expensive and too intimidating to do it ourselves.

Joining Austin Involved gives us a way to explore the Austin nonprofit scene as a group, making a bigger splash and having more fun than we ever would alone.  When you join, you agree to contribute $25 a month, and that contribution passes directly through to one of the chosen charities that month (yes, 100% of it!).  By being a member, you actually get a vote on which nonprofit the winning Charity of Choice will be too.

Once the group has voted and the Charity of Choice is announced, we want to see where our donations go, so we get together as a big group and spend a few hours of time on a large-scale volunteer effort, helping out with the project we’ve funded through our contributions that month.  That could mean furnishing an apartment for a woman and her children moving out of the shelter system, helping plant fresh produce to be donated to the food bank, painting a playground for children with special needs, or building extra wheelchair ramps for patients in hospice care.

In total, we participate in 12 local, innovative and important projects in a single year.  On top of that, our website lets us connect with dozens of other local nonprofits who might need our individual help in between service projects.

Members of Austin Involved get the chance to be inspired by Austin’s local charities, and find our passion while working alongside other young professionals who are just as committed as we are to making great things happen.
