We’re volunteering at Caritas of Austin

Every month, Austin Involved members select a Charity of Choice, and we give of our time and money to help that nonprofit achieve its mission.

February is Basic Needs, and Austin Involved members have chosen to support Caritas of Austin.

Caritas provides housing, food, education, and employment help to those most deeply in need in our community.  By providing basic needs to our neighbors, Caritas is all about getting on the road to self-sufficiency.

Every Monday through Saturday, Caritas of Austin provides free lunches – no questions asked – to over 350 individuals and families.  The community kitchen is almost entirely volunteer-run, with the single exception of the chef.  They’ve asked us to come in and serve Monday lunch to hundreds of clients.

We’ll prep the entire meal from start to finish, serve hundreds of people, and clean up.  Some of us will also be helping with their annual survey, where we go around during lunch and ask both demographic questions about them and how they feel Caritas is serving them.  Then we clean up and go back to work!

We hope you’ll spend a Monday morning with us, feeding the most hungry and needy in our city!
